As the advantages of Bearing Isolator (Protector) compared to traditional seal types, have been gradually recognized by the endusres of various industries, more and more rotating equpment manufacturers are trying to use bearing isolator on their equipments, such as pump, motor, gear box, fan, steam turbine, etc. Although there are some kinds of design can be used on several types of equipments, while the bearing isolator itself is a kind of customized design products. If the structure selection is not correct, it will bring a lot of trouble to the endusers. How to choose the bearing isolator can be considered from the following several aspects:
1. Lubrication. As to different lubrication, such as grease, splash, oil mist,oil and gas, immersion lubrication and so on, the corresponding structure of bearing isolator is different. If the design for splash lubrication was wrongly used in oil mist lubrication or immersion lubrication, there will be leakage.
2. Axial movement.The clearance between the rotor and stator ring is determined based on the acutal situation of the shaft movement.If the clearance reserved is insufficient,the rotor will wear the stator during operation. If the shaft axial movement reservation is insufficient, the isolator has the risk of falling off from the end cover or the rotor detach from the stator.
3. Installation. Currently interference fit is popular in the market, while the demand for tolerance control of the bore is high. If it is for a revonation project, it will be important to measure the bore size precisely. As to strong vibration, large shaft size equipment, flange mounting is recommended .
4. Operating environment. If the environment is high humidity, heavy pollution, the duty-proof structure of the isolator should be improved accordingly.
5. Material. Choose metal or non-metallic materials, not only from the point of view economic, but also in consideration of corrosion resistance, heat dissipation performance, thermal deformation, way of mounting and so on.
6. Application experience. The practical application experience of bearing isolator manufacturer is the guarantee of sealing performance. If the seal manufacturers don't have the exeprience of specific equipmemnt application, they are likely to ignore some important conditions and failed to offer the correct design.
